* What is a giclee
A giclee (pronounced zhee-clay) is a high-resolution reproduction done using a special large format printer and produced from digital scans of existing images and artwork.

Giclees can be printed on any number of media, from canvas to watercolor paper to vinyl, to transparent acetates and we can provide quotations for materials other than those quoted above. Giclees are superior to traditional lithography in nearly every way. The colours are brighter, lasts longer and are so high-resolution they are virtually 'continuous tone' rather than tiny dots. The range or 'gamut' of colour for giclees is far beyond that of lithography and the details are crisper. Lithography tends to use tiny dots of four colours to fool the eye into seeing various hues and shades whereas giclees use six colours of light fast (fade resistant) pigmented inks producing a wider colour gamut and the ability to use various materials to print on.

Giclee prints may be mounted on foam board, MDF or foamex at extra cost.

To book a session, purchase any print from this web site or if you require a size or format not mentioned above please contact us

Mounts and Frames

It is our recommendation that all prints should be framed with a mount surround so as to bring the best out in your picture. The prints we provide come ready to mount and frame as you so wish.

What is a mount (mat board)?
The coloured border around a picture is called a mount or mat, which maintains a space or border between the print and the outer frame. A mount is used to focus attention on the image and provides space and protection between the glass and the print.

Selecting the right colour mount

Look for a colour that is in the picture and use that as the main colour for the mount surround.

  • Seascapes look better with the soft greys and blue coloured mats.
  • Black and white pictures can look good with a dark green mat as an alternative to a black or white mat.
  • Outdoor photographs usually need the mid green tones.
  • Modern art, childrens pictures, and posters can be enhanced with bright colours.
  • Pencil drawings and fine art are best when surrounded with soft whites.

Selecting the right size border
The wider the mount border - the better the picture will look!!!
This is a general rule that can help you choose, so, when framing your pictures use a wide mat border, say at least 6cm. On small photographs the border can be narrower.

Frames

There are a vast number of types and designs of frames on the market to choose from and the one chosen is a very personal decision and in accordance to the present fashion. It is for this reason that we don't provide frames as we believe it best the client makes this choice themselves.
